November 2015 Interlocking Gate Fold Challenge
« on: November 16, 2015, 03:25:35 AM »
As requested by Carolyn, I'm going to attempt to start the challenges back up.
For November's challenge, make an interlocking gate fold card.

You can find more pictures and post your entries in the challenge album here:
http://forum.handcraftedgreetings.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=28

This example is 6" x 6", but you can make your card any size.
I used my Paper Artist Layering Frames cutting die to make the red frame and background.  The green and silver focal was made using a brass stencil and glitter glue. The red JOY sticker was cut from a red self-adhesive glitter sheet http://www.paperwishes.com/products/4102559.  I wanted it to stand out from the card, so I backed it with card stock and popped it up on foam.  The inside sentiment is from the Christmas Cheer Stamp set http://www.paperwishes.com/products/4101122.  I embossed it using Stampin' Up! red embossing glitter.

Materials for 6 x 6 card:
12" x 6" card stock for card base
5 3/4" square scrapbook paper
4.1/4" frame die (I used Paper Artist Layering Frames)
4 1/2" square red card stock for frame
Glitter glue (or stickles or silver stencil paste)
Square stencil (make sure the finished design will fit inside the frame - mine was 3" x 3")
Green card stock large enough to accommodate the square stencil
Joy cutting die
Red glitter sheet

Instructions for card front:
Attach square stencil to green card stock using low tack tape.
Use an old credit card to spread glitter glue (or stencil paste) across the stencil making sure the openings are filled. Remove stencil from paper and Set aside to dry. (be sure to clean your stencil off right away!)
After the stenciled design is dry cut it out leaving a 1/16" border around the design.
Score card base at 3" and 9"
Fold the left and right sides in so they meet in the center.
Cut the scrapbook paper in half from top to bottom (at 2 7/8")
Glue the scrapbook paper onto the left and right sides leaving a 1/8" margin around the top, bottom and outside edges and making sure the pattern on the left and right sides align with each other in the center when the card is closed.
Close the left and right sides.
Cut the frame background in half from top to bottom.
Glue the left and right halves of the frame background on the left and right "gates" so that the halves line up in the center.
Center the frame on the front of the card using the frame background to align it. Glue the RIGHT side of the frame to the right side of the card.  Do not put glue on the left side of the frame.
Glue the left half of the stenciled design to the left side of the card centering it inside the frame so that the design interlocks with the frame. Do not put glue on the right side of the design.
Add an embellishment to the center of the stenciled design.

Very  pretty Judy,  I'll  see   if I  get time to  make this.  I  have   some  recycled   cards  that  might  look   good   with this  technique.
